Thank you for visiting the Pine Crest Ave. – Riverside County Playground Road area Neighborhood Watch program in Idyllwild, California!
Who We Are
Our Neighborhood Watch program consists of homeowners, renters, and property owners in the vicinity of Lower Pine Crest and Riverside County Playground Road. We share a common interest in the safety of our homes, as well as preserving and enhancing the quality of life in our local neighborhood.
Above all, we value good neighbors- the ability to wave at and acknowledge those who live near us, and the added security knowing that those who live nearby are ‘watching our back’. Quality of life in our homes is enhanced with neighbors who respect each other’s rights to enjoy the qualities that living in Idyllwild have to offer us all.
History and Purpose
The Pine Crest – Riverside County Playground Rd. Neighborhood Watch program began in the summer of 2012, in response to a dramatic increase in home burglaries throughout the Idyllwild area. Our organization involved Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and most of the residents along these streets, as well as property owners adjacent to the area. Local contributions helped to make possible the installation of ‘Neighborhood Watch’ signs in this area. Since formation, our program has played a positive role in numerous incidents in our neighborhood and the Idyllwild area, such as supporting local residents during the 2013 ‘Mountain Fire’, and the 2018 ‘Cranston Fire’.
Like any Neighborhood Watch program, we place a strong emphasis on getting to know our neighbors, so as to be able to recognize unusual or suspicious activities nearby. Communication amongst local residents plays a central role in identifying risks or hazards, and has had the added benefit of a more ‘connected’ neighborhood. Our program is intended to complement local law enforcement efforts as a set of ‘eyes and ears’ in this local area.
Here is a description of some of the resources available here at our website:
Recent Incidents
This area is devoted to recent incidents that are related to significant safety issues to nearby residents. You can find summaries and information related to historic incidents in this area as well.
Ongoing Issues
This area of the website is focused on ongoing issues in this area that are generally non-emergencies, but are currently impacting quality of living in the area, and/or have potential to become significant safety issues.
Notification System
Our Neighborhood Watch program prioritizes communication as a central means by which to enhance safety and preserving quality of life. We utilize a Notification System that allows communication to any local resident of emergent incidents via a toll free phone number, and a phone distribution system. For less time sensitive issues of an ongoing nature, we utilize a ‘Google Group’ listserv which allows all enrolled residents to discuss issues and problems around the neighborhood.
Resources
This area is devoted to strategies and ideas that can help residents to protect their family, homes and property. You will also find useful contact information here.
